Why did Swiggy acquired Dineout?

Swiggy acquired Dineout

Swiggy acquired Dineout, a platform for dining out and restaurant platform. Dineout, the meal delivery app, has declared that it will remain independent following the takeover. Swiggy will be able to offer eating out table bookings and events as well as strengthen its company as a result of this move. It will help restaurant partners reach out to more people and expand their companies. Swiggy claims that the purchase would enable them to explore synergies and deliver new experiences in a high-use sector.

Dineout was founded in 2012 by Ankit Mehrotra, Nikhil Bakshi, Sahil Jain, and Vivek Kapoor to help customers find the best restaurants, make reservations, and take advantage of discounts and privileges at certain restaurants.

The acquisition did not come as a surprise as Swiggy has been focusing on expansion to keep up with the increasing competition in the quick food-delivery sector. Swiggy recently teamed up with Garuda Aerospace to test drone delivery of groceries in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) and Bengaluru, Karnataka. Swiggy’s grocery delivery service, Instamart, will be tested as part of the pilot experiment. It has also given rise to a lot of questions, including how Swiggy could benefit from the move. Swiggy has also extended Instamart, its rapid commerce grocery delivery service, to 28 locations and Genie, its pick-up and drop service, to 68 cities in the past 20 months.

“The acquisition will allow Swiggy to explore synergies and offer new experiences in a high-use category,” said Sriharsha Majety, CEO, Swiggy. Swiggy’s move might be regarded as a response to Zomato, which provides both meal delivery and eating out options. Both businesses have been experimenting with numerous models to outsmart one other. Zomato unveiled a 10-minute meal delivery promise in March. The company soon stated that the service will only be available for select nearby regions and will only include popular and standardized products that can be shipped within 2 minutes.

“We strongly feel that with Swiggy’s deep understanding of the ecosystem and our shared passion for a superior consumer and restaurant experience, our joint forces will help provide a holistic platform in this industry,” said Dineout co-founder & CEO, Ankit Mehrotra.
