Due to the border rifts between India and China and the increasing anti-China tiff, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Vivo had terminated their ties for IPL 2020.

But, despite this, the brand made a comeback as the title sponsor for IPL 2021. Vivo had signed an Rs.2,200 crore deal for gaining rights as the IPL title sponsor from 2018- 2022.

The marvel cricket tournament has been extended to have two brand new teams starting from the 2022 edition—Ahmedabad and Lucknow. In October, Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Ventures and Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) had attained the rights for owning and operating the two new franchises.

RPSG Ventures had bid the highest for Rs 7,090 crore for Lucknow, while CVC Capital Partners had made a bid of Rs. 5,625 Crore for a team housed in Ahmedabad.

However, there is some uncertainty around the tournament with a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic sweeping the country.
