In a fresh announcement at the 46th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Chairman Mukesh Ambani said it’s time for a new era of innovation and growth focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). Emphasizing the immense potential of AI to reshape industries, economies and daily life in general, Ambani talked about the Jio Platforms’ ambitious plan to pioneer India-centric AI models and solutions across various domains.

Jio ‘s Vision for India in the Tech Revolution

Mukesh Ambani’s address marks a critical moment as he underlined the need for India to lead the global AI revolution. With a country with scale, rich data resources and abundant talent, India can uniquely reign in AI for innovation, growth and national prosperity. Ambani stated, “A global AI revolution is reshaping our world. Intelligent applications are bound to revolutionize industries, economies, and even our day-to-day lives.”

However, Ambani highlighted a critical missing piece in India’s AI journey – the digital infrastructure’s incapability of handling the computational demands of AI. This is where Jio Platforms steps in with a promise. The company has committed to creating 2,000 megawatts of AI-ready computing capacity spread across cloud and edge locations. Yet, this step is not just about scale; it’s also about sustainability. Ambani assured a greener energy footprint for the next five years, showing a dedication to eco-friendly practices.

Reliance AGM 2023 saw other major technology announcements, from Jio True5G to Jio Bharat Phone. The company is well on its path to making India “2G Mukt Bharat” and, in the same light, has introduced Jio Bharat 4G Phones, which will be available at a low price of just Rs999.

From Broadband to AI: A Promise Renewed

Drawing parallels to Jio’s previous promise of universal broadband connectivity, Ambani declared, “Here is my promise to our countrymen. Seven years ago, Jio promised broadband connectivity to everyone, everywhere. We have delivered. Today, Jio promises AI to everyone, everywhere. And we shall deliver.” This promise of Jio’s commitment to democratize AI across the nation ensures that its benefits will trickle down to the grassroots and government levels.

As RIL’s telecommunications and digital services unit, Jio Platforms has been at the forefront of technological innovations. Ambani’s announcement cements Jio’s role as a pioneer in India’s AI revolution. With its massive subscriber base of 450 million, Jio can easily leverage AI to transform industries and enhance user experiences.

Looking Forward: AI for Every Indian

While AI’s potential is exciting, privacy and job displacement concerns have surfaced. Addressing these concerns, Ambani’s announcement coincides with India’s efforts to establish robust data privacy regulations, including the Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture (DEPA). These initiatives aim to protect data transactions and ensure responsible AI deployment.

Ambani’s vision resonates with N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, who views AI as a job creator in India. By enabling individuals with varying skill levels to take up advanced roles, AI has the potential to reform the employment market positively.

Jio Platforms’ ambitious plans to lead India’s AI industry and develop India-based AI models and solutions hold the promise of driving innovation and empowering citizens nationwide. As AI ushers in a new era of possibilities, Jio’s commitment to “AI for everyone, everywhere” announces a future where India emerges as a global AI leader, ready to set benchmarks and achieve a brighter, AI-powered future.
