Deliveroo, a UK-based food delivery company has announced the opening of its engineering centre in Hyderabad. The new engineering centre in the Skyview building of the HiTec City area of Hyderabad will be the company’s first in the country. The centre will be led by Sashi Somavarapu as Vice President of Engineering. Sashi has earlier led teams at various organizations including Amazon, Jio Platforms, and Ford Motor Co.

The company which was founded by CEO Will Shoo and co-founder Greg Orlowski in 2013 operates across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. It plans to hire 150 engineers with skills in Analytics, Platforms, Automation, and Machine Learning from India in the year 2022 alone. The company currently has 800 people working across the globe and plans to increase the number to 1250 by the end of the year.

“Opening up a new engineering hub in India will extend our global team of incredible engineering talent. The Centre will help us to continue to unlock innovations for each side of our marketplace, developing a world-leading service for consumers, restaurants and grocers, and riders,” said Will.

Deliveroo is a food and grocery delivery service that combines consumers with restaurants and grocers, as well as delivery riders. As Deliveroo scales and improves its offering, the India Engineering Center in Hyderabad will offer engineers the opportunity to solve cutting-edge business problems.

According to many reports, India is currently the largest producer of tech individuals and the company wants to tap into the tech potential of the country. “Some of the world’s leading tech talent is based in India, which is why we are so excited to start recruiting in Hyderabad. The work we do in India will have a global impact, helping Deliveroo to scale while being at the forefront of change in its sector,” said Devesh Mishra, Chief Product and Technology Officer.

Previously Devesh was Vice President, Global Supply Chain at Amazon and is responsible for building the world’s most technologically-advanced supply chain for Amazon using data analytics, predictive technology and machine learning to improve the retail and marketplace business.
